Meet Christine
Encaustic Artist
As an encaustic artist, I work with beeswax, tree resin, and oil pigments to build, luminous, textured seascapes that reflect the beauty and fragility of our oceans. My process is slow and intentional, each layer of molten wax fused by heat, scraped back, reworked, mirroring the rhythms of tide and time. I often incorporate techniques inspired by Shou Sugi Ban, as well as organic materials, to underscore the natural world's resilience, and its fragility in the face of environmental disregard.
I draw upon the visual language of light on water, tidal movement, and marine textures to render surfaces that invite both physical and emotional reflection. The encaustic medium, an ancient technique, allows for sculpting and layering, symbolizing the complex layers of life beneath the ocean’s surface. By showcasing the delicate interplay between light, water, and marine ecosystems, I aim to inspire a deeper connection to our oceans and encourage action towards reducing plastic waste for a healthier, more sustainable future.
