Meet Jill
Oil and Pastel Artist
Whatever subject I paint, my primary focus is always the “light” and how it affects what I’m trying to capture. I approach my paintings as a sculptor would, carving out highlight and shadow.
An avid plein air artist, I’m inspired by the American and Italian landscape. I participate in 5-7 national plein air festivals per year, and during the cold Michigan winters I’m in my studio, creating larger pieces…but always chasing the light.
My work is exhibited nationally in solo and group exhibitions and is included in corporate and private collections in the U.S and Europe.
My painting was featured on Plein Air Magazine’s cover and I’m often found in their pages. Fine Art Connoisseur has highlighted my work, as has Pastel Journal. I teach my own workshops around the country and in Italy, and have been Plein Air Convention Faculty six times.
A designated Master Pastelist by Pastel Society of America and International Association of Pastel Societies, I also belong to American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists, Great Lakes Pastel Society, and Degas Pastel Society.
